There has been much research on toothpastes and their effectiveness. The research is limited but demonstrates that they are effective for eliminating plaque and promoting dental health. Studies also indicate that some of these natural ingredients really do work. Keep in mind that the simple physical action of brushing the teeth, removing food, bacteria and plaque is beneficial and contributes to keeping the gums strong and reducing holes in the teeth.

However, most people do not brush enough or take other measures to prevent cavities. These practices lead to deficiencies in oral health and increased susceptibility to cavities. The goal of any commercial product is to make a product that enhances brushing and enhances oral health.

There are many herbal toothpastes on the market today. Most contain potassium nitrate. Potassium nitrate has proven itself to be a useful abrasive cleaner when it comes to removing stains from clothing. However, recent studies have shown that its abrasive properties may cause tooth sensitivity and decrease the strength of saliva. It is important to note that salivary glucose levels increase after brushing so mouthwash is recommended. However, when choosing which mouthwash to use read the label to ensure it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate or SLS.

Herbal toothpastes typically contain one or more of these ingredients: potassium nitrate, cellulose phosphate, magnesium stearate, magnesium carbonate, niacin, sodium saccharin, sodium fluoride and sometimes pyridoxine hydrochloride. Most contain the sugar known as brown sugar. However, when comparing brands it is important to look for the difference between dextrose and glucose. A dextrose-free formula will have less calories and therefore less potential for becoming overweight. On the other hand, a glucose-free formulation will have less calories and more nutrients.

While most herbal toothpastes do not contain sodium lauryl sulfate, many brands will have trace amounts. These ingredients are used because they remove surface plaque that can be harmful for your teeth. Some studies indicate that toothpaste with trace amounts of SLS can also help prevent cavities. The amount you need to look for depends on your overall oral health and brushing habits.

The majority of Herbal Toothpastes do not contain any sweeteners. This includes natural and organic flavors, flavorings made from whole grain, fruits, vegetables or herbs and other special flavors. Although some companies have introduced fruit flavors that mimic the taste of strawberries or other sweets, regular and non-flavored herbal toothpastes usually have no added sweetness. As with regular toothpaste, check the ingredients list for any artificial sweeteners.

Since herbal toothpastes do not contain chemicals, they are considered much safer than regular toothpaste. While toothpaste may kill germs and prevent decay in your teeth, it can also strip your teeth of their natural protective coating. This coating is called enamel, and its purpose is to make your teeth resistant to acids and other substances. Regular toothpaste can weaken enamel, allowing them to break down and make way for bacteria. Sulfate-free toothpaste is especially important if you have dental problems or need to avoid sugar.

Herbal toothpastes also work best if you want to whiten your teeth. Most people do not realize that bleach-based toothpastes can discolor your teeth. Lemon juice toothpastes remove stains, but they can also be hard on enamel, leaving them porous and susceptible to more staining.

If you are looking for a daily toothpaste to use to whiten and cleanse your teeth, you should look for one with the ingredients mentioned above. There are a few brands that include a fluoride ingredient like Dental Caries. Fluoride can help prevent cavities, which, in turn, can prevent tooth decay. You should check the bottle to make sure it does not contain any artificial colors or flavors and check the ingredients to make sure it includes an effective dose of fluoride.

Herbal toothpastes are good for a variety of things, and there are some brands out there that combine herbs with different flavors, so you can find something that will suit your taste. Colgate Palmolive toothpaste has a lemon flavor, while Colgate Creative Life is loaded with herbal ingredients, including Aloe Vera. Both flavors help to remove stains from stained teeth. You can apply toothpaste in a variety of ways, depending on the situation. You can dip a toothbrush into the toothpaste, or you can rub it into your gums.

A major problem with regular toothpaste is that it contains harmful chemicals called “triclosan”. Triclosan is found in many products, including shampoos, mouthwash, and toothpaste. This chemical is considered to be a carcinogen, and is known to contribute to hormonal problems in both men and women. Since women tend to develop gum disease at a later age, triclosan may be playing a role in a woman’s susceptibility to gum disease. If you are suffering from frequent bad breath or have been experiencing symptoms like sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, irritation to the gum, or swelling, you should check to see if your toothpaste contains triclosan.
