When you find yourself suffering from severe and acute pain relief is often a distant dream. Many people have no idea what relief feels like, or indeed how to get it. But relief doesn’t have to be elusive. In this article we will look at relief and how it can help you.

Relief is an artistic method by which the sculptured structural elements remain firmly attached to a sturdy background of the similar material. The word relief is from the Latin word regere, to lift. To make a sculpture in relief the artist uses various tools including hydraulic lifts to move the piece above the level of the supporting surface. To achieve mid-depth effects, several pieces may be placed on top of one another in a low relief manner to form a mound or pedestal. The low relief style is more suitable for shallow bowl shapes such as bowls and conical shapes as the high relief style can easily be damaged if placed on a square or rectangular shaped table. It is also a much safer occupation for the artist who needs to move several small pieces.

Rock relief is a type of low relief technique where sculptures are constructed from random assorted pieces of stone. Pieces are placed on top of each other and are assembled on the ground before being placed on top of one another. It is an excellent technique for use in indoor areas where fine rock work is required. It can be used indoors on any sort of smooth flat surface including walls. Although the medium is quite simple to work with, but there are a number of skills that need to be developed before undertaking this type of sculpture.

High-relief friezes are commonly used indoors to mark boundaries or for interior decoration. A very striking and impressive example of a high relief frieze can be witnessed in many public parks. These parks feature hundreds of free-standing natural sculptures by local artists. A great place to locate one of these natural wonders is at any park with an Oceanside setting. A similar structure, which is probably a cousin of the frieze is found at the Chats worth National Park.

There are numerous examples of high reliefs. The most common is sculpted reliefs. This can be in the form of marble columns, cast stone reliefs and granite busts. Sculptured reliefs can be found in a wide range of materials including slate, limestone, sandstone and travertine. Another common sculptured relief is found in art galleries where abstract paintings and sculptures are hung on the wall as part of the overall design.

Two other types of relief have become quite popular in the last few years. One of them is the free-standing rock relief. Rock reliefs can be found in a wide variety of sizes, styles and materials. These include; ancient Egyptian reliefs, European reliefs, Japanese reliefs, Chinese reliefs and Hollywood reliefs. Perhaps the most famous is the Rock And Playground In New York City. Designed as a playground for the local children, this monumental relief was created in the mid nineteen sixties by Arthur Deutsch.

Another popular relief is found in the Roman style. Known as bas-relief, these are usually flat or slightly concave pieces of marble or other textured stones that rest on a base that is either supported by columns or the ground. Unlike the frieze above, bas-reliefs are usually a few inches thick. As its name suggests, it usually rests on a raised level surface and is built up around the wall or ceiling. Among the most popular examples of these are the Coliseum At Rome, the Acropolis at Athens and the Arch at Jerusalem.

As you can see, there are many possibilities when it comes to relief sculpture. The type and size of the relief, its medium as well as its printing process all play an important role in the final output. All of these decisions will ultimately depend upon the final purpose of the piece. As a general rule, the larger the sculpture, the more detailed and complex the relief. Thus, in order to achieve greater visual effect through its apparent projection, the use of a large relief may be required.
